From the moment the Dell was re-opened in 2005, the Trust got recognition for the work it does.
It was acknowledged by the National Audit Commission as a shining example of all that can be achieved by Community and Council working together: see Enhancing Urban Green Space. The report is huge, but look at page 32!
Since then, the Trust has never looked back, receiving prestigious awards every year, including awards from London in Bloom, Britain in Bloom, the Green Flag and others.
This is the 'London in Bloom' Gold Award that we won for the best small park (under 5 acres) in London. It is the parks' equivalent of winning the Oscars!
This was against competition from other parks that have almost limitless funding and are totally looked after by paid staff. Of course, the Dell is looked after by unpaid volunteers, albeit with much-valued assistance from Brent Parks and their super gardener, Darrell.
It is a tribute to our Gardening Club that we won this award, despite all of the cut-backs to Brent Parks service. Indeed, it is thanks to their hard work that Mapesbury Dell was the only one of Brent's parks to achieve a Gold Award again last year.
The Dell is closed on Monday mornings until 12.30pm for the gardening club.
Become a member of Mapesbury Dell Trust. It's free. It helps to support the Dell. You get to have your say about how the Dell is run and you get advance notice of what is happening in the Dell and invitations to events. Volunteer to help with the Gardening Team, Events or Projects. Tell us what you like about the Dell, how you think we can make it better and about any concerns you have.
